| Bat
Garden at 'the Paddock' |
|
(a
haven for bats and the community) |
|
| |
Haringey's
'Making the Difference Fund' has awarded us
funds for a Night-Scented Garden for bats and
the community in mind. We are looking forward
to beginning work November/Dec 2008 and planting
in the spring. The project will comprise a number
of phases and we hope to have one phase completed
in spring 2008.

Benefits:
-
The garden will entice moths, midges, small
beetles etc, which will be foraged upon by
bats.
|
| |
|
-
Local residents (upwards of 3,000), would benefit
from having a relaxing, scented garden on their
doorstep. The project would also encourage volunteers
from the local community to come forward during
and after construction, to help with maintenance.
Both 'Lee Valley Bats' and 'Friends of the Paddock'
would maintain the garden in good order. |
| |
Grahame
Pearce, our Chair and founding member of the
Friends of the Paddock, is hugely supportive
of the Scented Night Garden project. Grahame
facilitates and takes part in 'monthly maintenance'
work parties on the Paddock, and he is also
the Haringey Representative for the 'London
Wildlife Trust'. |
| |
|
The
Paddock is a Community Nature Park positioned
on the Tottenham/Walthamstow border. This is
the most biodiverse area of Haringey which includes
the river Lea, the Lee Navigation and the immense
Walthamstow Reservoirs. Developed as a haven
for birds, trees, flowers and, of course, people,
the Paddock makes a ideal location for our Night
Scented Garden. The garden will measure approximately
72 square metres, (792 square feet; 712,800
square centimetres). |
